Dorinda Clark Cole to appear in Charlotte production of Summerville play 'Spare the Rod'

Tall One Outreach Ministries presents the award-winning gospel play, “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child – Part 2,” written and produced by Dr. Mildred Summerville and directed by Trina Jeffrie (aka Sister Cantaloupe). The event takes place at Ovens Auditorium, 2700 East Independence Boulevard in Charlotte, NC, on August 10, 2019, at 7:30 PM. Gracing the stage are Grammy award-winning artist Dorinda Clark Cole, gospel singing sensation Shawn McLemore, Tra’Lesha Willis, Rhonda McLemore, “Queen of Gospel Comedy” Trina Jeffrie, and renowned preacher, teacher, and author Apostle Aaron McNair.

A must-see story, the play is alternately a moving drama and a side-splitting comedy that will be talked about in families and generations to come. These insurmountable challenges have been encountered by most families. In this gripping and engaging dramatic piece, a woman is simply known as “Grandma” serves as the pillar of her surroundings. Her son’s family is in crisis, and those within her neighborhood are drowning in chronic troubles of their own. Through it all, Grandma seeks God on behalf of those who are not spiritually inclined enough to seek Him for themselves. Even those who resent her, such as her son’s sometimes-rigid wife, Linda, ultimately end up on Grandma’s prayer list. And when the walls of the lives of those around Grandma seem to come tumbling down, they know who to turn to for guidance and sound counsel. It’s not always advice that they want to hear, but it is consistently the precise word needed to steer them in the right direction.

“Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child” portrays issues within the community such as family dysfunction, peer pressure, substance abuse, and other pertinent matters that are too often inadequately addressed or considered taboo altogether. Extraordinary drama, corrupt karma, a supportive pastor, and a praying grandma all come together to make “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child” a must-see theatrical production. Infused with foot-stomping gospel music, this is soul-stirring entertainment that will warm hearts, tickle funny bones, uplift the spirits, and search the souls of all those who experience it.

The 2019 Charlotte production of “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child” is sponsored by The Rock Worship Center in memory of Gabriel Michael Jacobs. Gabriel, the son of  Pastor Frank and First Lady Kimberly Jacobs, passed away
unexpectedly at the age of 12. Because Gabriel was best known for his big heart, his parents founded the Gabe’s Heart Foundation in his honor. The foundation recognizes individuals who display a giving spirit and a compassionate heart. A portion of each ticket sale for the Charlotte production will be donated to Gabe’s Heart Foundation.

Dorinda Clark-Cole to be part of reality series ‘Preachers of Detroit’

Gospel Music Fever

I suppose the cast of a new Preachers… series wouldn’t be complete without a prominent preacher who is also a powerhouse singer. It’s apparent from the first two seasons that Deitrick Haddon has it on lock with the LA installment.  Come February 18 (10pm ET), Dorinda Clark-Cole will hold it down on the new Oxygen network series, Preachers of Detroit.

The three-time Grammy winner and member of the legendary Clark Sisters wears many hats: COGIC evangelist, recording artist, TV and radio host, and fashionista with her own clothing line called The Rose Collection. The reality show will chronicle Clark-Cole’s efforts to juggle her whirlwind lifestyle (as her family’s primary bread winner), her desire to strengthen her relationship with her daughter Nikki, and her own self-care.

The Preachers of Detroit cast features six other high-profile persons of the cloth: Bishop Charles H. Ellis, III, Bishop Corletta Vaughn, Pastor Tim Alden, Pastor David Bullock, Bishop-Elect Clarence Langston, and Pastor Don William Shelby, Jr.

Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development for Oxygen Media, says in a press release, “Preachers of Detroit is the latest iteration of the honest, thought-provoking storytelling that Oxygen viewers have so strongly connected with. We introduce a new group of Preachers who have various roads to faith, triumph and transformation, but share a united dedication to help influence positive change in Detroit.”

I’m just curious. What’s the likelihood of adding Preachers of Memphis to the franchise with Al Green rounding out the cast?

Joshua Rogers hosts 'Teachable Moments' for aspiring artists

Ever since Joshua Rogers was named BET Sunday Best champ in season five, making him the first male and the youngest winner in the show’s history, he says questions have poured in from other rising gospel singers who desire to be successful in the music industry.  Consequently, Joshua (whom Kirk Franklin nicknamed “Young Buck”) is launching “Teachable Moments,” a free series of teleconferences to answer questions and share from his own experiences.  He won’t be the only one giving advice though; established industry notables will also join the discussions, starting with Dorinda Clark-Cole.

“Teachable Moments” kicks off Thursday, August 21, at 6 PM (eastern time), with Dorinda as Joshua’s special guest co-host.  To participate, dial 712-432-1212 and enter 549-827-236# as the meeting ID.

Dorinda Clark-Cole lands TV show on The Word Network, re-brands current radio show

Today, The Word Network announced the addition of Gospel According to Dorinda to its lineup.  The extremely brief blog post on www.thewordnetwork.org did not provide additional details about the show at GMF press time.  From Dorinda’s Facebook page, however, we know she is stoked, and she urges her fans to “stay tuned for updates!”

In a press release from Bill Carpenter, it was also announced that Dorinda’s syndicated radio program “Serving Up Soul” is being renamed “The Dorinda Clark-Cole Show,” beginning January 2014.

“Re-branding the name is a result of responding to our fans,” Clark-Cole explained.  “Our listeners called the show ‘The Dorinda Clark-Cole Show’ anyway. When they did web searches, they used that name. We are all about our radio family so it only makes sense to call the show what the fans have been calling it all along. I am grateful for all the stations that carry the show because we seek to give them a great product while nourishing our listeners’ minds, bodies and souls through information and entertainment.”

According to the press release, the two-hour weekly broadcast will continue to feature gospel hits, unique weekly features, and interviews with gospel personalities.

Kudos to the songstress, evangelist, and media personality!
