GMF is sad to share news of the passing of singer/musician/songwriter Charles Johnson, formerly of the Sensational Nightingales and Charles Johnson & The Revivers. Johnson passed this morning (Monday, October 6). He was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife and six children.
During my childhood, I regularly attended concerts featuring the Sensational Nightingales. Charles Johnson was indeed one of the most unique and earnest voices in gospel quartet music.

Charles Johnson had a great voice and witness.
I played his music in jail for fifteen years. His music touched many lives. I look forward to spending eternity with him. He truly loved Jesus.
I have great memories of Charles Johnson. I pray to see him in our Heavenly home.
I have listened to Charles and the Revivers for hours. Their music touched my soul. May Charles be singing in heaven. I can’t wait to meet him there.
