St. Mark Sanctuary Choir wins Verizon’s ‘How Sweet the Sound’ finale ’13

Congratulations to the St. Mark Sanctuary Choir, this year’s winner of Verizon’s “How Sweet The Sound”  choir competition. The grand finale was held Saturday, November 2, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.  St. Mark Sanctuary Choir is from Little Rock’s St. Mark Baptist Church.

No strangers to the choir contest, the choir earned the top spot in the Memphis regional in 2010 and the Dallas regional in 2012.  This year, St. Mark again won the Dallas regional in order to advance to the finals.  See that performance below.

Congratulations to the Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir of Tarboro, NC, runners-up at Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound Baltimore tour!  The choir’s second place finish comes with an $8,000 prize. Check out the performance below.

Gentle Giant Music Ministries of Hyattsville, MD placed first in last night’s competition and will compete for the grand prize in the Los Angeles finale.  Congratulations to Gentle Giant Music Ministries!


Tamela Mann joins Salvation & Deliverance Church Choir for Christmas musical

Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir–named “America’s Best Church Choir” as the grand prize winners in Verizon’s “How Sweet the Sound” national choir competition in October–will celebrate its win and the holiday season with a rousing Christmas production entitled, How Sweet the Tidings.

The dynamic award-winning choir from Tarboro, NC, will be joined by special music guest, powerhouse Tamela Mann, star of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and formerly of Kirk Franklin and the Family.

The celebration is this Friday, December 9, at 7 PM.

Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir wins Verizon's "How Sweet the Sound"

Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir took top honors this weekend at Verizon’s “How Sweet the Sound” national choir competition.

The finale was held Friday, October 28, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  Nine regional choir winners competed and were critiqued by three of gospel’s heavyweights: Pastor Marvin Sapp, Pastor Shirley Caesar, and Israel Houghton.

Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir of Tarboro, NC performed its version of The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah and walked away with cash and prizes totaling $40,000 along with a chance to sing at the Stellar Awards and the 2012 Super Bowl Gospel Celebration.

The Gospel Music Channel will air the Road to Finale special on Thanksgiving weekend, highlighting the stories of the church choirs who advanced to the final round.
