Anthony Brown & group therAPy receives 10 nominations for 2018 Stellar Awards

CHICAGOJan. 17, 2018 / PRNewswire — Central City Productions announces the nominees in 28 categories for the 33rd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, hosted again this year by history-making artist Kirk Franklin on Saturday, March 24. Contemporary gospel group Anthony Brown & group therAPy leads the field of nominees this year with ten nominations. The group earned recognition for its work on the album A Long Way From Sunday (Key of A/Fair Trade/Tyscot Records) in the categories of Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, Duo/Chorus Group of the Year, Producer of the Year, Contemporary Duo/Chorus Group of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, and Urban/Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year.
With nine nominations each, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise, and Travis Greene demonstrate excellence in the field as recognized by the Stellar Awards voting body.  Cobbs Leonard is nominated in the categories of Artist of the Year, Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, and Producer of the Year, among others for her work on Heart. Passion. Pursuit. (Motown Gospel).  J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise are nominated in the Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, and Choir of the Year categories, among their nine nods for the group’s work on You Deserve It (JamesTown Music/Entertainment One).  Greene continues to rise in the gospel genre, earning nominations this year in the top categories of Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, and Producer of the Year for his work on Crossover Live in Music City (RCA Inspiration).   
With five nominations each, veterans Deitrick Haddon and Ricky Dillard demonstrate their staying power in gospel music, representing contemporary and traditional gospel, respectively. Haddon is nominated for Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Duo/Chorus of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, Duo/Group Chorus of the Year, and Producer of the Year for Deitrick Haddon & Hill City Worship Camp (Entertainment One).  Dillard’s nominations come in the categories of Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year, Traditional CD of the Year, Traditional Choir of the Year, Choir of the Year, and Recorded Music Packaging of the Year.
Other artists earning multiple nominations include Marvin Sapp, The Williams Brothers, CeCe Winans, The Rance Allen Group, Bishop Paul S. MortonTina Campbelland Le’Andria Johnson.

The Stellar Awards show taping will return to The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 24, 2018, and is open to the public, with ticket prices ranging from $50 to $200 at www.ticketmaster.com.

The weekend of activities begins with the Stellar Awards Independent Artist & Quartet Showcase, taking place on Thursday, March 22, with winners performing at the non-televised awards pre-show ceremony.  The 2018 Stellar Gospel Music Awards Pre-Show is scheduled for Friday, March 23, to showcase non-televised award winners.  Also, the Stellar Gospel Radio Awards & Showcase will be held on Saturday, March 24, honoring top radio stations and announcers serving urban gospel music audiences. 2017 Stellar Award nominees announced; Greene, Mann lead with nine each

CHICAGO, Jan. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ – Central City Productions has announced the nominees in 26 categories for the 2017 Stellar Awards.  Hailed as an “epic night in gospel music,” this year’s Stellar Awards will return to the Las Vegas Orleans Arena on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  The telecast will premiere on TV One Sunday, April 9 at 7 PM ET with encores at 9 PM and 11 PM ET.  In addition, the Stellar Awards will air in national broadcast syndication on 170 stations in over 150 markets around the country April 14 – May 7, 2017.


Praise and worship breakthrough artist Travis Greene and chart-topping soloist Tamela Mann lead the nominations with nine each.  Greene is having an amazing year, in the running for both Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year, for his work on The Hill (RCA Inspiration). This inspirational psalmist is also nominated for CD of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, and Praise and Worship CD of the Year.


Gospel superstar Tamela Mann joins Greene on the Stellar Awards nominee leader board, nominated this year for Artist of the Year, Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year, and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year.  She is also competing for CD of the Year, Producer of the Year, Song of the Year, and Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year.


With seven and six nominations respectively, veterans Hezekiah Walker and Kirk Franklin demonstrate their staying power in gospel music, recognized for Male Vocalist of the Year, Choir of the Year, Contemporary Choir of the Year, and Contemporary Male of the Year for their projects Azusa The Next Generation 2: Better (Walker/EOne Music) and Losing My Religion (Franklin/RCA Records).  Franklin also receives a nod for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, CD of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Contemporary CD of the Year.   


Jekalyn Carr, nominated for Artist of the Year, and Todd Dulaney, nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, and Contemporary CD of the Year, are in contention for Praise and Worship CD of the Year. Anthony Brown wins huge at 31st Stellar Awards

Ask Anthony Brown about his weekend, and you may well hear just how stellar it was.  The singer/songwriter/producer and his aggregation, group therAPy, won every category in which they were nominated, including Song of the Year for “Worth” (from the CD, Everyday Jesus).

That’s ten Stellar Awards.

Charles Jenkins and Fellowship Chicago also had a great weekend, taking home four awards, including one for Choir of the Year.

Campbell, Dillard collect multiple Stellars during Gospel’s big weekend

It was a big weekend in Las Vegas at the 30th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards for Erica Campbell and Ricky Dillard. Campbell and her CD Help hauled a total of eight awards, including Artist of the Year, CD of the Year, Producer of the Year (Warryn Campbell), and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year. Dillard took home four trophies, two of which for Song of the Year (“Amazing”) and Choir of the Year.


The Walls Group also left Gospel’s big night with a pair of Stellars; along with Deitrick Haddon’s League of Xtraordinary Worshippers; and Lisa Knowles and The Brown Singers, who captured wins for Traditional Group/Duo of the Year and Quartet of the Year.

Habakkuk teams with Central City to release Stellar Awards 30th anniversary CD

Habakkuk Music has announced a historic partnership with Central City Productions to release a special compilation album celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Stellar Gospel Music Awards. The highly anticipated album, Stellar Awards 30th Anniversary 1985-2015, (Habakkuk Music) releases March 31, 2015.
 
The first Stellar Gospel Music Awards television broadcast took place at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago in 1985, and this year’s landmark program takes place at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The collector’s edition album will feature an array of chart-topping tracks by fifteen of the most legendary names to ever stand on a Stellar Awards stage and sing the praises of God. The final track will be announced in the coming weeks.
 
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards show is executive produced by Don Jackson and produced by Barbara Wilson for Central City Productions (CCP). Founded in 1970 by Don Jackson, the Chicago-based Central City Productions is a distributor of original targeted programming to television and cable networks. Nominees for 30th Annual Stellar Awards announced; Campbell, Dillard lead nominations

Nominees for the 30th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards were announced today (January 13). Erica Campbell and Ricky Dillard and New G lead the list of multiple nominations with 10 each.  Check out the full list here.

This year’s awards show moves to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and will be taped for telecast on March 28, 2015. Comedian/actor David Mann and wife, Stellar winner Tamela Mann will share hosting duties with comedian/actor/radio personality Rickey Smiley.

Industry giants Andraé Crouch and Al “The Bishop” Hobbs will be honored posthumously with the Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award. Bishop Paul Morton and President Barack Obama are set to receive the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award and the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award, respectively.
