Official Video – “Glory” – Mario Brown

GMF spotlighted gospel newcomer Mario Brown’s single “Glory” a few months ago (see here).  Now, here’s the newly released music video, directed by Robert Williams III.  The full-length project, The Mario Brown Project, is set to drop September 4, 2012.

THROWBACK VIDEO – Whitney Houston sings backup for mom at gospel show

Watching Mother Cissy Houston pay homage to her daughter “Nippy,” better known as Whitney, at the 2012 BET Awards brought back memories of Cissy’s performance at the Stellar Awards more than 20 years ago.  By then, Whitney had already made quite a name for herself in pop, which was why it was totally endearing and just plain cool to see her sing backup (along with BeBe and CeCe Winans) for her mother on the awards show.  It was apparent that Whitney was moved by her mommy’s stirring performance of the Dorsey song “Peace in the Valley.”  I was fortunate to find the footage on YouTube.

Lady Dianne Richardson suggested that I take a listen to the music of Jordan Daniel.  I did, and his is definitely a name to remember.  Enjoy the live recording of “Perseverance,” written, arranged, and performed by Daniel.

Video – “Down in the Valley to Pray” – Doc Watson (1923-2012)

Bluegrass singer/songwriter/guitarist and North Carolina native Doc Watson has died.  He was 89.

Watson enjoyed a successful career as a bluegrass, country, and folk artist.  The seven-time Grammy winner and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient also recorded gospel, including the Grammy-winning album On Praying Ground.

Greensboro’s WFMY News 2 highlights Watson’s influence: Doc Watson Bluegrass Legend Dies At 89 In Winston-Salem.  Meanwhile, GMF shares a beautiful a capella tune it located on YouTube.  The Watson family, friends, and music community have GMF’s sincerest condolences.

Kee.  The 32 year-old singer/songwriter/pastor and Kee deliver this mid-tempo bounce so earnestly that by the time they finish hurling their doses of encouragement (“Even if your life is still in a mess, believe God for your blessing–it’s comin’ to your address”), your faith in the power of God is unwavering.

The Sounds of Blackness recently released the official music video for “Testify.”  The inspirational ensemble’s current self-titled CD won the 2012 NAACP Award for Outstanding World Music Album.

“Little Old Lady’s” gospel goes viral on YouTube

Hundreds of thousands of gospel heads have seen the video on YouTube titled, “This Little Old Lady WIPED the church OUT!!!” in which Sis. Rowena Smith works the congregation into a frenzy with “To God Be The Glory (My Tribute).”  With over a million views to date, it’s entirely appropriate to say that the octogenarian has become a YouTube sensation.
